Christian Meditation

Christian Meditation Prayer Group

To be silent in mind and body. We keep silent the body silent by not fidgeting or moving the body during the 20 minutes of silence.

To still the mind we do not entertain any thoughts whatsoever. All thoughts during the period of meditation are considered as distractions. To assist us to still the mind, we continuously repeat a prayer word from the beginning to the end of the meditation period. Even then we will be constantly distracted and as soon as we become aware of the distraction we go back to repeating our prayer word.

Brief Description:

OLSS group started on 4/3/96. We are part of the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM) with headquarters in London and the Singapore Centre at Holy Family Church. To date there are about 25 groups in Singapore, majority of which are in parishes.

Presently, our group consists of about 10 to 15 people. We are not formally organized but have a coordinator to facilitate the meeting and to liaise with the Singapore Centre in regard to workshops, retreats etc.

For further information go to WCCM Singapore or WCCM International.

Meditation is our prayer of just being with God since He dwells in us. We do not during meditation ask Him anything or speak to Him. We just be with Him. Our understanding of this form of meditation is that it is a discipline and not a method of prayer. So as a discipline we hope to be faithful to our two periods of  meditation every day we do not worry about 'success' in our meditation, we just continue to be faithful in our practice.
