Mission:

We, the Tamil Apostolate of OLSS commit ourselves to building a Christ-centered Tamil speaking community by renewing family and community life by journeying together, strengthening the bonds of relationships with one another, living out the Word of God and the Eucharist as the center of our faith

Brief Description:

The Tamil Apostolate originated in 1992 to celebrate Masses and other spiritual activities in Tamil in OLSS for the Tamil community living in and around Yishun and Sembawang.

Objectives:

The aims and objectives of the Tamil Apostolate are:
1. To identify, plan and implement pastoral and missionary programs consistent with the needs of the Tamil speaking parishioners of OLSS and any other programs and / policies of benefit to the Tamil speaking parishioners of OLSS as whole.
2. To evaluate from time to time the effectiveness of the current programs and policies of the Tamil Apostolate with a view to improve, substitute or terminate the same.
3. To keep the parishioners of OLSS of Indian origin informed of the affairs, activities and programs of the Tamil Apostolate and OLSS in general.
4. To organise social gatherings for the purpose of celebrating important catholic religious and/or Indian cultural festivals.
5. To organise and conduct social and/or welfare activities in the spirit of the context of a caring society.

Activities:

• Tamil mass - Every 3rd Saturday of the month at 6.30 pm.
• Celebrate Infant Jesus feast with 3 days Triduum every year in January.
• Celebrate New year Mass (Jan 1), stations of the Cross and Good Friday services during lent in Tamil.
• Celebrate Home Rosary in the months of May and October (open to all families who wish to bring Mother Mary statue to their home, invite Parishioners and conduct rosary prayers with fellowship)
• Celebrate Tamil Apostolate Committee Anniversary in August.
• Organize family get together once a year.
• Provide support to ACTS (Archdiocesan Commission for Tamil speaking) in line with their mission and vision of the Archdiocesan level spiritual events.

Meeting:

Every 1st Tuesday of the month in our church.

 

Art and Decorations Ministry

Art & Deco Ministry

Mission: 

To glorify God and to help people raise their hearts and minds in thanksgiving to God for His beautiful Creation.

Brief Description:

Committed members arrange flowers weekly for the Sanctuary for weekend masses and Weddings and decorate the church according to the Liturgical calendar but most especially on Easter, Christmas, Lent, Advent, feast days and weddings.

Activities:

Order and soak the flowers overnight to make it fresh and lasting before arranging the flowers on Friday for weekend masses. Decorate the church according to the season (Easter, Christmas, Lent, advent, weddings and Feast days).In addition, the Art Ministry also encourage the parishioners to offer flowers to God and to mother Mary by arranging flowers for sale to raise funds for the church maintenance.

Meeting:

Every Friday from 3pm onwards to arrange flowers

Seasonal Meeting:

Before Christmas, Easter. Advent and Lent.

 

Pastoral Care for the Sick and Elderly Ministry

Pastoral Care for the Sick and Elderly Ministry

Mission: 

To visit the homebound Catholics

To visit the Catholic residents in the nursing homes

To minister the Catholics residents in the nursing homes through prayer and holy communion.

Brief Description:

The Pastoral Care for the Sick and Elderly Ministry aims to reach out homebound Catholics and nursing homes residents to personally pray for them at the same time provide them the Holy Communion.

Brief Description:

Catechetical Sessions in Our Lady Star of the Sea (OLSS) are grounded in the prayer space and are opportunities for our youth to encounter Christ at a deeper and more intimate level. Leveraging on a range of activities that span from prayer meditations, Para liturgy, Kerygma (Gospel) reflections and interactive group discussions, our sessions not only aim to strengthen and build our young peoples’ knowledge, love and relationship with God, but also foster a Christ-filled and Christ-strengthened community that is ready to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19)
